Microsoft Create

This project was an initiative to connect with our creator audience, with the goal to help people create visually inspiring videos, graphic designs, presentations, and more. Often times we hear customers say they’re not creative, or they don’t have design experience. We built this site, create.microsoft.com, and and new catalog of visual templates to help people overcome that learning gap and be able to create quality artifacts. No design experience required.

Process

This project began with the goal to focus on creators. We started with a foundational understanding of this audience with research led by our team researcher. Once we had a live site, we were continually able to test with customers and learn in real-time what their frustrations were, as well as their hopes and dreams for the experience.

We wanted a look + feel that was very expressive, colorful, and inspirational.

My role

I did not lead design on this project, but I had the opportunity to work on an incredible team and provide support. We wanted a look + feel that was very expressive, colorful, and inspirational. My role was to consider how we could translate this visual flavor and creation experience to other surfaces. I worked closely with partners across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Windows in an effort to establish common patterns for creation, while also considering how their earned differences in product would impact the experience.

Tools

We used Figjam for brainstorming sessions and Figma to create mocks, prototypes for research, and redlines to hand off work to engineering.

Outcome

Check out the Microsoft Create site, and stay tuned for updates coming to OneDrive, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
